I just know that baby Giyuu would feel something from the first time he sees that smile. Giyuu would look at him with wide big blue eyes. Mouth slightly parted. Wondering where the little fluttering in his chest came from. Touching a small hand to his own soft pink tinged cheek. Trying to figure out why it felt hot. Not knowing what to do with himself after realizing Sanemi has stopped laughing and is looking at him with a serene smile. Giyuu looks away, and wonders if Sanemi's suddenly pink cheeks feel hot too.

I started rereading the KNY manga (for the thousandth time) and decided to write some curious facts that I have in my AU.

Warning: There are some ships that I like, if you don't like them, don't read and avoid having a bad time. And if there are any questions, I will answer them. Or in case there is some information that you like and that I also like, I can add it

Ships:

1. SaneGiyuu (Sanemi Shinazugawa x Giyuu Tomioka)

2. ObaMitsu (Iguro Obanai x Mitsuri Kanroji)

3. GenMui (Genya Shinazugawa x Muichiro Tokito)

Before the Final Battle:

1. After Nezuko was accepted by Oyakata-Sama, Giyuu took in both siblings and let them stay at his estate to rest or to feed them.

Some time later, Giyuu left the property to both of them as he started living with Sanemi, but he always visited them to make sure they were okay, so it didn't really seem like he and Sanemi were living together.

2. However, after Nezuko was accepted, most noticed a change in Sanemi's personality.

This was because Sanemi remembered the moment he killed his mother and a guilt came over him. He tried to think of what it would have been like for him and Genya if he had known known that it was not necessary to kill her, but he could have sought help for her.

3. Shinobu and Giyuu became close after Kanae's death as Shinobu began to exhibit strange behaviors and Giyuu noticed.

Many thought that the two were a couple, and they were, but they discovered that they got along better as friends than as boyfriends, and they remained on good terms.

After all, it was Shinobu, with the help of Uzui and Rengoku, who helped make Sanemi and Giyuu a couple.

4. Nezuko's feelings for Zenitsu began when she realized that she was part of his priority and that he stayed taking care of her after saving everyone.

In turn, Nezuko really likes how Zenitsu cares about her, in addition to enjoying his gifts and having them in her box when he is on a mission.

5. Neither Mitsuri, nor Tengen, nor Obanai accepted hearing that Rengoku had died.

When Mitsuri found out, she immediately ran to Obanai and cried for hours because she couldn't believe that her mentor had died and she wasn't able to save him.

Obanai couldn't cry, he didn't know why, but he just couldn't do it, at least when he was awake, he started crying silently when he slept.

Tengen was probably the one who accepted that the best, but his thoughts that he was going to hell increased, nor did his wives manage to console him because he seemed to remain neutral about it in front of them. He only cried in front of his grave, it was the only place where he felt comfortable crying.

6. After the red light district arc, Kanao was the one who stayed by Tanjiro's side the most during his free time, often singing to him or having Nezuko with her to make sure everything is okay.

7. Although Nezuko could speak after the Blacksmith Village Arc, she was wearing her bamboo muzzle for some time.

It was something that Nezuko gradually stopped, even though most of the time she was seen without her muzzle, when she was alone she used a cloth because she felt 'uncovered' and she didn't get used to it.

The girls from the butterfly mansion and Giyuu were the ones who helped her get out of the muzzle, as well as taught her to talk and do other activities so that she stays busy and doesn't think about it.

8. Kagaya knew that soon he would have to die, so he decided to use himself as a sacrifice.

Although he tried to persuade Amane to save herself so that she could take care of her children, Amane never left him and asked Gyomei to take care of her children for them if he survived.

9. Mitsuri cried when she learned that each person was dying, which was reflected in her fight against Nakime, and Obanai was constantly repeating to her and asking her to make an effort so that their deaths were not in vain.

10. The surviving crows informed everyone they knew of the hunters who lost their lives about who won.

Although some parents were happy, others cried, others were extremely angry with the Ubuyashiki, but they did not dare to say anything to them because they were children and because they were escorted by Uzui and Rengoku.

After the Final Battle:

1. Since most of the hashiras died, Sanemi and Giyuu agreed to become their new owners so that they would not lack food.

Except for En, Shinobu's crow, and Kaname, Rengoku's crow, who were left in the care of Kanao and Senjuro.

2. When Sanemi and Kanao met, Sanemi not only gave Kaburamaru, but also a paper with activities, tastes, meals, schedules and instructions to take care of Kaburamaru.

This paper would have been written by Obanai shortly after he became hashira, the only one who knew about this was Kaburamaru, so he was the one who showed Sanemi the hiding place so that he could give it to Kanao.

3. Tengen, Sanemi and Giyuu pay a weekly visit to their comarades and family.

This started because on a visit that Tengen and his wives made, they heard cries and found Sanemi and Giyuu crying uncontrollably, so they began to go back to back to have better emotional support at those times.

4. Although part of Shinobu/Kanae's haori was torn, Inosuke found some fabrics and kept them carefully because it was the only thing left of Shinobu for him.

Upon learning that Nezuko managed to restore Giyuu's haori, he kindly asked if she could do something with Shinobu's, and although she couldn't do much since much of the fabric was stained with blood, she managed to make a small handkerchief.

5. None of the butterfly girls (Naho, Kiyo and Sumi) know that Shinobu is not coming back.

Neither Kanao nor Aoi have the heart to tell them that she died and every time they ask about her, they respond "she's on an important trip, but she asked us to remind you that she loves you very much."

6. Shinjuro left his alcohol problem some time after Kyojuro's death, becoming the father that Senjuro and Kyojuro remembered.

He usually takes Senjuro to spend time with the Kamaboko Squad while he simply observes them, especially Senjuro.

7. When Mitsuri's parents found out about her death and what happened between her and Obanai, they themselves organized the burial for both of them.

They always go to visit them and before leaving, they leave a small plate of sakura mochi for Mitsuri, and a plate of tororo kumbo for Obanai.

8. Although the bodies of Shinobu, Genya and Tokito could never be found, they, like the others, had their place in the bush.

Genya and Muichiro's graves are together, as Sanemi kindly requested that the least he could do to honor his brother is to be buried next to the person he loved, on the other hand, Shinobu's grave is close to that of Gyomei and Kanae.

9. If you remember, the first time Sanemi meets Kagaya, after Kumeno's death, he reads the will that Masachika had left for Sanemi and they let him keep it.

Obanai and Rengoku's letter was given to Senjuro and Shinjuro, Gyomei and Shinobu's to Kanao and Aoi, Mitsuri's to their parents, Genya's to Sanemi, and Muichiro's to Giyuu.

10. Kagaya and Amane's children (Kiriya, Kuina and Kanata) were "adopted" by Sanemi and Giyuu, as they considered it inappropriate for children to grow up without a father and mother figure.

Some additional data:

1. Giyuu, Sanemi and Tanjiro will live beyond 25 years, why?

My theory is that the hunter's mark was similar to the curse of the Ubuyashiki, so when Kibutsuji was defeated, both the curse of the Ubuyashiki family and the curse of the "marked" were removed. Although Sanemi and Giyuu thought they would die when they reached 25, they were surprised that this was not the case and that made them very happy, since they were able to accompany the Ubuyashiki in their childhood and be there as their support.

2. Inosuke didn't understand his feelings, so he initially thought that he was sick or that some BDA had affected him.

Kanao explained that he was just in love and went directly to tell Aoi about what he felt and she accepted it.

3. Part of the names of Uzui's sons were based on their fallen comrades. His wives didn't care and supported him in his idea.

Giyuus story fits a romance plot line after the final battle so perfectly, he’s such a people character, you can’t mention his character development without mentioning tanjiro and sanemi. A romance plot line would work so well for his character imo, and i feel when people headcanon him and ONLY him as aroace because he gives off those ‘vibes.” The vibes are literally just his autistic traits, giyuu shows very noticeable autistic traits (honestly surprised it isn’t more of a mainstream hc cause what??) and it’s just like i live for aroace headcanons, but when you’re specifically headcanoning giyuu and only giyuu just because he gives off the ‘vibes’ it really makes me think.

I saw the hc drabble event and my SaneGiyuu has awoken…

A headcannon where, when Sanemi saw Giyuu smile for the first time it was as if he saw an angel- okay over exaggerating much but still, he’s been wanting to see it again and now that they’re together why not take that chance to see it again? Problem is Giyuu doesn’t know how to genuinely smile on command, so Sanemi thinks of another way to get him to smile. (And laugh)

Y'all all my ships are being FED this event! I've gotcha covered, anon! This was so fun to write AHH!

When Giyu smiled at him- it was like the very first sunrise. Sanemi felt his entire world brighten, the usual darkness that hung over him suddenly dimming at that gentle expression. He nearly forgot to breathe- completely spacing out of whatever conversation he was having at the moment as he lingered, the sight permanently burned into his brain.

“God, you have it bad, huh?” Obanai chided him, completely oblivious to his own hypocrisy.

It’s been some time since he’d seen it. Sanemi went on with his life, that expression far gone far too quick for his liking. He replayed it over and over again in his mind, but eventually that simply wasn’t enough. He needed to see it again, no matter what.

“Smile?” Giyu blinked, surprised by the request. Sanemi nodded.

“Yeah. Like- right now.” He knew it was an odd request, especially after he asked him to spar with him. He didn’t care. “Show me what you got.”

“Ugh..” Giyu nodded, furrowing his brows. He bared his teeth, awkwardly pushing his lips up. “Huh?”

Sanemi stared. Giyu felt defeated. “Sorry. I’m not good at this.”

“It’s fine- you just need the right motivation.” At his sudden tone, Giyu narrowed his eyes. Then he was on the ground, pinned and sat on as Sanemi drilled his fingers into his armpits. “Ngh!”

“Come on- don’t fight it!” He growled, snickering at Giyu’s stubborn expression. “You know you can’t hold out that long. I’ve seen you get tickled before.”

“Y-You can’t e-either!” The water Hashira grunted through his restrained mirth, earning a snarky “OI!” from the other. He reached out, wiggling his fingers against Sanemi’s knee in hopes of freeing himself. “T-There!”

“Gah! Ohoho hell nah! Yoohohu’re gonna get it- geheht OFF!” Sanemi switched tactics, dropping his hands to Giyu’s ribs. His fast fingers were far more effective here- Giyu abandoned fighting back as pulled his arms into himself, squirming at the touch. “Theheere, now LAUGH!”

“N-Nehever!” A giggle slipped, then another! Giyu was soon laughing in his hands, covering his face as he kicked his feet. “Stahhahhap!”

“Hah! Told you I’d break you!” Sanemi cheered, if not a bit breathless at the soft pillowy sounds Giyu let out. “This won’t do at all..” He reached out with one hand to gently pry off his hands, the other carrying on his tickles. “Come on, lemme see that- WHOA!”

The world flipped. Giyu used his training to turn the tables, quickly grabbing Sanemi’s wrists and pinning them on each side of his head. “Thehehehere!” Giyu exclaimed, giggling through his deep breaths. There it was; that beautiful smile Sanemi seeked for a long time. “I wihin-”

He was silenced when the Wind Hashira leaned up out of nowhere, kissing him. The Water Hashira seemed to freeze all over, not expecting the kiss. Sanemi felt his heart drop as he realized what he was doing. He quickly pulled away. “Shit. Sor-”

Giyu dropped his wrists, grabbing the collar of his shirt and bringing him back up, kissing him back just as fiercely. Sanemi was quick to return the favor, grabbing onto his Haori in return.

“Don’t you dare apologize for that.” Giyu gasped out when they finally pulled away, cheeks pink and something wild like desire in his eyes.

“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Sanemi didn’t sound or look any better, pulling him back down by the back of his head for another kiss.

Since then, Giyu had been smiling far more often.

Hands

At 8 years old, Giyuu never thought much about his hands. They were meant to pick up, carry and grab things with. His big sister Tsutako would pull him alongside her by the hand. He thought his hands were small and nothing special.

At age 10, he met a boy named Sanemi. Sanemi also had two hands of course. Giyuu would watch Sanemi carry one of his younger siblings named Genya around with them. How he would use them to dig around for rhinoceros beetles. How Sanemi would use them to skip small flat rocks across the surface of a nearby lake. Giyuu never thought much of Sanemi's hands. Hands that had the same functions as his own, and the same tiny dimples along the knuckles.

But the first time they both reach for the perfect pebble near the lakeshore, their hands lightly brush against each other's. Giyuu can't help but feel the tiny sparks of that accidental touch.

Years later at age 17, Sanemi reaches for Giyuu's hand to intertwine the two as they walk to a nearby soba noodle shop. Giyuu's in awe of how a simple touch, can give him so much warmth and comfort.

At age 27, Giyuu stands opposite the love of his life while reciting his vows. He carefully slides a solid gold band on Sanemi's left ring finger. Now when he looks down at Sanemi's hands, he doesn't just see a boy that used to dig for rhinoceros beetles, or skip pebbles across a lake. Instead, all those years later, Giyuu sees his forever in those hands.

Okaayyy! Let's get started with the very deep, in detail ship analysis! (The first ones are very simple though so forgive me!)

ZenNezu, like I said before, is one that I enjoy. 8/10

TanZen is okay, but I don't think Tanjiro would be into men, so I can't see it. 3/10

InoAika and ObaKanna (I'm sorry, I don't know much about your ocs! If you still want me to rate them, lmk!)

RenKana is actually not that bad, but because they have never actually interacted (from what I know), I can't say I ship it. 5/10

SaneGiyu is a no from me. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I don't really like this ship. They have no chemistry and Sanemi is not open to the idea of being friends with Giyu (before the final arc). Sanemi has been shown to dislike Giyu and has stated why on several occasions. Giyu hasn't shown much distaste for Sanemi, but he does give him sass and kinda just disregards what he says. And I also have an HC where Giyu is Asexual/Aroace/confused. That's only my opinion though! 2/10

SabiGiyu is always one that I am open to! I enjoy their dynamic and how Sabito cares for Giyu. I think it's important to note how Giyu only changed after Sabito's death. Things might've been very different if Sabito had survived. Giyu was happy around Sabito, and vice versa. 8/10

ShinoMitsu IS MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME. One, I genuinely think Shinobu is Lesbian and I live for it. Two, Mitsuri is believed to be Pan/Bisexual, so it'd make sense. I love how Shinobu has been shown to care about Mitsuri and how Mitsuri believes Shinobu to be beautiful and cool. They have a ship dynamic similar to ObaMitsu, Mitsuri being the bubbly and kind person she is x Shinobu, being the soft though angry/jealous(?) person in the relationship. They would work well and already do. 10/10

Deku x Uraraka isn't one I was always fond of because I thought Uraraka was also Lesbian and/or Bisexual. Just an HC of mine. Though, now that I think about it, they would make a cute couple and are very much loved characters. 8/10

BakuCamie is not one I like. One, they barely interact at all. Two, Camie is into Shoto (I'm not saying I ship Shoto and Camie). Third, I don't think Bakugou is even shippable at this point. Their personalities clash and don't mix well, considering Camie is one who looks for attention and is gaudy, while Bakugou just doesn't care. He cares about being the number one hero, not being considerably famous. I think that's what a lot of people don't understand about his character. He is always angry while Camie is usually collected and flirty. Bakugou would likely get annoyed by that behavior. 2/10

Jiro x Denki is an amazing ship. This ship is badass girl x worshipper guy and I love it so much. They are one of the only sane ships in BNHA and I'm here for it. 9/10

TodoIida is not one I expected but that's okay! I think this might work, though their personalities don't work together. Both of them are stoic most times and are probably touch-starved. Iida would be inflexible (like Iida is) and Shoto would kinda just stand there like 🧍‍♂️. Their dynamic is similar to what I think Muzan x Kokushibo is. (I do NOT ship Muzan with anyone, I just need another example). 5/10

TodoMomo is a cute one! I think positively about it because of the concern Shoto showed for Momo in season 2/3(?). And the way Momo and him work together so well. He is a gentleman and I think that works well with Momo's slightly timid and respectful personality. 7/10

I hc Giyuu to be really clean and elegant indeed but those aren't inherently feminine traits and Sanemi undeniably has more and I stand by this fact

Based on my last post I mentioned how often this fandom sees giyuu as more feminine than sanemi which is pretty weird due to fact he is barely feminine? Like what is feminine abt him? His long hair which he literally cuts short in the end?? Maybe due to fact he is more "elegant" than sanemi might seem that he is more feminine but from what stuff I found abt sanemi's character is the fact he has a lot of feminine characteristics from his name to his backstory and even stuff he eats

sanemi's name might be considered feminine due to fact most japanese names that end with -suffix mi are often female names or the fact you can take out this kanji meaning increasingly, all the more 弥 (he shares this kanji with genya but they are read differently) out of sanemi's name 実弥 and put this kanji 美 (this kanji is also used in sanemis younger sister's name sumi) meaning beauty, beautiful, pretty and is spelled the same way the mi part in sanemi's name

I mentioned his favorite food being feminine why? It's due to fact liking sweets in japan as a man is considered to be childish and a feminine thing

His backstory in general is in many people's words oldest daughter coded due to fact sanemi help his mother with raising his little siblings and had to cook and clean for them or even having to get a job at an young age. Due to fact his mother was often pregnant he probably had to be the one who did the most housework

When it comes to his appearance sanemi is often said to have his mother's kind smile that all of his siblings really liked. He obviously has long eyelashes and he in general has chuubier cheeks. It was also mentioned in the story how he smells like ohagi and matcha. He most likely takes after his mother's height and I can already hear people going "But he is only one cm shorter than his brother" first of, men stop growing at 21, the fact genya is already taller than sanemi while being 16 means he still has room for more, secondly we already know how in most anime and manga heights are not done well, like there is a panel where genya looks taller than sanemi atleast for 5-6 cm so either sanemi or genya are lying about their height. Last thing which ufotable has stolen from us is sanemi's pinkish hair in manga, like yeah pink wasn't considered a feminine colour in that time period but now it is so I had to mention it

Also sanemi is often described as an kind and bashful person in the manga by multiple people in the story like c'mon people, why is he often written as an aggressive macho dude in most fics I'm tiredd

also i was gonna add to my 'why obamitsu is amazing' post before my wifi went out, giyuu and sanemi technically doesnt work out until after canon, as theyre the only hashira left and would probably be closer due to an experience that uzui doesnt have, leading them to bond and learn about each other, which is not something sanemi wouldve done unless someone (obanai) maybe gave them both a push in the right direction in terms of romance. he might not understand girls but these two are men. gay as hell men, but still men. also, i did not tell my mom about the sanegiyuu part.

Story concept: Obanai meets Tomioka instead of Mitsuri in the Ubuyashiki estate, and his total lack of react to Obanai has the same catnip effect, leading to Obanai fixating on Tomioka. Note to myself to test run this when the meds wear off, also do your work and drink some water
